STUDI-GUIDE

Useful information for the start of the 2025/26 semester

ÖH? WHAT‘S THAT?

The ÖH (Austrian Student Union) represents your interests towards the program management, the university management, or the federal government. In addition, the ÖH offers numerous services that make everyday life easier for us students.

Federal Representation (BV “Bundesvertretung”):

The Federal Representation works on political demands, coordinates the work of the various university representations, and advocates for nationwide study reforms and concerns.

University Representation (HV “Hochschulvertretung”):

The HV deals with general issues that affect all fields of study, such as study conditions, examination regulations, or university facilities

Study Representation (StV):

Represents the interests of students in the relevant degree programs in committees. The StV provides personal advice and organizes events where students can meet and network.

Departments (Referate):

There are 11 departments, each with its own responsibilities. The most important ones are

  • Social and Diversity Department: Point of contact for questions about grants,  funding, etc. Supports you in your studies and in crises.
  • Education Policy Department: Supports you with legal questions about exam modalities, attendance, etc.
  • Campus Departments: Contact persons for questions about offers on campus.

HOW IS MY ÖH CONTRIBUTION USED?

We all pay a contribution (€25.20) to the ÖH. This money is distributed and used for counseling, funding, events, and much more.

  • € 0.70 accident insurance
  • 5% federal representation
  • 95% university representation

Floor plans

To help you find your way around more easily, each location has a standardized naming system for buildings and floors. On each floor, there is a floor plan showing the rooms with their room numbers. These plans are usually located near the stairwells.

Especially in the first few weeks, it is helpful to view or download the building plans from the university website. Over time, you will learn where you need to go. 😉
