THE RED THREAD

Your Summer semester 2026

PREFACE

Dear Students!

Welcome to JKU and to your new (or perhaps even first?) semester! Studying isn’t just about attending lectures and passing exams, it’s also about trying new things, getting involved, and sharing unforgettable experiences together.

With this guide, we want to help you find cool events, make it easier for you to get started in your everyday student life or enrich it, provide information about what the ÖH JKU means, and, of course, give you insights into what we do as VSStÖ Linz.

We wish you a successful start, many exciting encounters, and above all: a lot of fun studying!

Yours,
Adisa, Chair of VSStÖ Linz

YOUR VSSTÖ AT THE JKU

We provide services and advice to help you in your everyday student life. Additionally, we are your spokespeople and represent your interests in university committees and in politics. Because one thing is clear for us: we care about you!

WHAT WE WANT

We want a JKU that is here for us students, because we are the  heart of this university and not just mass-produced goods that roll off the conveyor belt in five years.

Furthermore, we stand for a university that is open to everyone who wants to attend, not just those who can afford it. We want a JKU that is modern and dynamic, whether in teaching, research, or campus development.

OUR COMMITMENT TO YOU

What we have now made possible:

  • More vegan opitions at the Mensa (cafeteria)
  • Awarenessteam at every ÖH JKU event
  • Clear positioning of ÖH JKU against right wing extremism
  • Support of Iranian Students
  • “Luisa ist here” at LUI (Codeword for uncomfortable situations at LUI)
  • Discount booklet with various discounts for JKU Students
  • Networking of Upper Austrian ÖHs
  • Enforcement of the wait list system for subject exams

THE VSSTÖ IN THE ÖH

The ÖH is the legal representation of the interests of all students at universities, universities of applied sciences, teacher training colleges, and private universities in Austria and is an integral part of the educational policy landscape.

We can decide for ourselves who represents us students: ÖH elections are held at universities every two years. As VSStÖ, we do valuable representative work at all levels of the ÖH. That is why you will find us, with 18 of 55 seats, as the strongest force in the federal representation, and also at JKU in all student councils, faculty councils, in the university council, in the ÖH departments, and in the senate chair, where we act in your interests.

WE ARE LOUD FOR YOU

The VSStÖ has not only achieved its best result ever nationally, but also at JKU Linz. At the university representation level, we have doubled our number of seats and are pleased to have won 6 out of 17 seats. Our representatives are introduced below. We are also back in the executive of the ÖH JKU after many years, where we are fully committed to social issues and fair university policy.

WHO WE ARE

We, the Socialist Students of Austria (VSStÖ “Verband Sozialistischer Student_innen in Österreich), are students who are committed to a fair university system. We fight against discrimination and social selection at all levels and for a free and open access to higher education. We are committed to fair study conditions, social security, and affordable living.

Our team is always open to people who want to get involved in politics, broaden their horizons, and, of course, have an unforgettable time with like-minded people. If you are interested or have any questions, contact us online or directly on campus!
