Local represantation

Since our foundation in 1893, we at the VSStÖ have been campaigning for opportunities for students to have a say at universities and in higher education policy. The ÖH, the Austrian Students’ Union, has existed for this purpose since 1945. It legally represents the interests of all students at universities, universities of applied sciences, teacher training colleges and private universities in Austria and is an integral part of the education policy landscape. The ÖH represents over a quarter of a million students. This task is carried out by over a thousand honorary representatives in addition to their own studies. We can decide for ourselves who represents us students: ÖH elections are held at universities every two years.

The VSStÖ has dedicated itself to the social protection of students in its ÖH work. We want to prevent those with fewer financial resources from being pushed out of universities. At the same time, we believe that the ÖH must play its part in opposing sexism, fascism, oppression and discrimination in the interests of a progressive understanding of society. We are active in the federal representation and in university representations and thus have the opportunity to actively represent your interests as the executive of the ÖH.
