Selina Wienerroither

national leading candidate

The 22-year-old wants to finally make studying possible for everyone and is therefore fighting for social security, working students, fair study conditions and against the right under the motto “Voice of the many”. These four pillars are intended to create progressive universities and study for all.

She has been campaigning against injustices in the education system since she was at school. First as a school representative at the commercial academy in Vöcklabruck and later when she was elected to the regional student council in Upper Austria. Neither of her parents have A-levels, so studying was uncharted territory for her and not an option for a long time. After her own A-levels, however, she had a strong desire to study. The hurdles were about the same. Now she is in the middle of studying theater, film and media studies and realizes every day the challenges that working-class children like her have to face. She soon decided to continue campaigning for social justice in our education system at the ÖH. As higher education policy spokesperson for the VSStÖ, she fights every day for a better university. A university without social selection, discrimination and pressure to perform.

“If you go to university, you usually make up your mind in the cradle. As a working-class child, it’s a daily challenge for me to keep my head above water with benefits and a part-time job. As Chair of the ÖH, I want to use my voice to fight loudly for improvements at our universities! I want a university where all perspectives are heard. A university for the many!”, says Selina about the ‘Voice of the Many’ campaign.

Selina Wienerroither is fighting as the voice of the many for socially just higher education. She fights against discrimination and right-wing influence at universities. She fights for social security and grants that are enough to live on. She fights for fair study conditions and a balance between studying and working.
